The Close Encounters Of The Third Kind movie was a favorite of Jerry Garcia. The 5 note signature theme was first introduced into Grateful Dead jam at a show in January 1978 only a few days after the opening of the movie. Besides all the hoopla about Jerry's solo encounter this is a good show. Well worth the listen even if you are alien to the Dead
A bit of Trivia.....Jerry made a cameo appearance in the film Close Encounters. He appears in the crowd of Indian masses.

Thanks for this and for this fantastic run of GD concerts - it will take some time for my listening to catch up. As with JA and CJ&F before it, this run has given me a host of things I had never heard before. Keep it up, it's great and very much appreciated - Thank you.

Love your covers man! First set they are just warming up but love the Row Jimmy and thanks for labeling the space "Jerry solo close encounters", sewwt how they go into St. Steven.
If people dont know what this is here is a good youtube link of the "jam session".

I totaly have to get this movie now and watch it with my kids. I hear that Jerry makes a cameo in the movie but I don;t know where.
