The sound quality is upgraded tremendously from previous posting and it includes the "who do you love" track which had been omitted  previously.I upgraded the artwork from a picture I had for a while. IMPERIALISTIC

Sometime late 2011 or 2012 Gary Duncan pulled out of his connection and touring with the Jefferson Starship. With him he took the Quicksilver moniker. Not to be left out in the cold David Freiberg and his wife Linda Imperial have resurfaced as The Imperial Messenger Service. They have been opening for the Starship as of earlier this year and are  performing QMS material and are playing it somewhat better than Duncan was doing. Their set also highlights Linda's material since in realistic terms the band is essentially hers.
The QMS is just as much part of Freiberg's legacy as was anyone else in the band. Here are four sets from IMS . They are short but are pretty good. Thanks David for keeping the QMS spirit alive !

SILVER NUGGETS

A final post in this run of QMS material. Here's a brief history of the band in it's various incarnations. I tried to select some material that you may  or may not have heard. I could spend all day putting together this great music from San Francisco's finest!

01  Maiden Of The Cancer Moon/ Calvary ...... A live selection from the classic QMS lineup. Taken from the "Happy Trails" recording time frame. Several takes of this guitar driven psychedelics were edited to the classic LP's " live" release.

02  Codine.
03  Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You .... " Revolution" tracks  Both of these tracks were recorded specifically for the soundtrack but were staple items in the QMS concert playlist

04  Walkin' Blues
05  I Hear You Knockin'..... blues standard tunes played early in the band's early live shows

06  It's Been Too Long...... A band original from the first LP

07  Bears ....... a 45rpm release that the band wanted for "the kids"  Very different!

08  Word's Can't Say..... from the "Shady Grove" LP

09  Joseph's Coat
10  Holy Moly
11  Shady Grove ......All outtakes from the third LP

12  Edward,,,,,,,From the studio sessions for Edward The Mad Shirt Grinder

13  Cobra........Rehearsal track from the "Just For Love " LP

14  Rain........Outtake from the "What About Me"  LP

15  Play My Guitar......Studio rehearsal track. this song would eventually find it;s way to the "Quicksilver" LP of 71

16  The Letter
17  Bittersweet Love( Instrumental)
18  I Heard You Singin' (Instrumental)
19  Honky Tonk Jekyll and Hyde
20  Unvicious Circle (early cut)
21  Worryin' Shoes
22  Hebbie Jeebies..........All from John's Reels

23. Not Fade Away.....  A live QMS version of the classic Holly song

24  Pistolero.......    Duncan's Quicksiver in 86 with an instrumental with classic QMS influences

BACK IN THE SWING OF THINGS

Gone are Cipollina, Freiberg, and Hopkins. Now it's in the hands of Capt Valenti and First Mate Duncan. It's not over yet my good friends. The next couple of LP's will produce some pretty damn good music. "Quicksilver" and " Comin' Thru" are released but the band seems to be losing altitude. Some notes about this show. John left the band but for some strange reason does play a few more dates with the band and I believe this is one of them. I really do not know why since at this point the band is totally Dino driven and John's part is pushed to the point of backup band member. I have no idea of the band members for this so if you know let me in on it.

BOOK EM' DINO HAWAII 7 0

A bootleg from the band while on their Hawaiian excursion with even more prominent emphasis on Valenti The next two albums, Just for Love and What About Me are sometimes called the "Hawaiian" albums because they were recorded mostly in a studio in that state, and both have a similar Hawaiian motif to their cover designs. They also sound similar to each other and very different from the group's earlier repertoire. Guitarist Gary Duncan is back. But an even bigger change is that Dino Valenti had become the lead singer and (under a pseudonym) main songwriter. What had been a jamming guitar band became little more than the backup musicians for a folk / pop oriented singer-songwriter; naturally this alienated some fans, but the records sold relatively well and produced the group's one legitimate hit radio single, "Fresh Air". Before the next recordings, John Cipollina, David Freiberg, and Nicky Hopkins all went their separate ways.

DANCING EDWARD

Here is a bootleg that is (to the best of my knowledge) from John Cipollina's private collection. I have little knowledge of who actually takes part in this studio session and various outtakes. My original source claims all of the then current band members were on this recording. However in listening to the complete recording I would suggest that is pretty much John and Nicky working out various  riffs on "Edward". There is also the possibility that there is another session dated 7-23 and 24 with additional recordings. Take it for what it's worth in historical value. Feedback on the post is welcome

EDWARD AND THE GRINDERS

I could find very little info on this but I will tell you it sounds like a soundboard and contains one truly awesome WDYL. This particular one is 30 minutes long and Nicky Hopkins can be heard in the mix and he sounds stark raving mad.His piano is a great boost to a song in which you would Not expect it. One of the best versions of this song I have ever heard.

DUNCAN OUT>HOPKINS IN

So Gary Duncan decides to leave the band and they ask Nick Gravenites to join. He did not stick as a band member but did indeed form a great musical relationship with John Cipollina. They recruit world reknown keyboard player Nicky Hopkins( who had already racked up countless credits with other recording artists) He fit right in and added a new level of creativity to the QMS sound and would remain with them for several years. Interesting is the fact that the LP "Shady Grove" would be produced by Nick Gravenites

STUDIO SESSIONS

Quicksiver has a lot of studio outtakes that have been saved from the early days of the band. Most of these recordings have surfaced thanks to the personal library of John Cipollina. John"s archives are a great inside look into the band and I am going to put some of these out there for your interest. A lot of these outtakes and studio sessions are quick takes, incomplete songs, rehearsals and jam sessions. Take them for what they are worth...a look into the Quicksilver history.Up first a couple of sessions from the first QMS LP
